Hernando Wild Fire

A Hernando Wild Fire has reached over 1,000 acres and officials says its 75% contained. The fire itself has tripled in size according to officials who have been battling the blaze since Saturday.

Officials think the fire started from a lightning strike on Thursday. They didn’t get reports of the blaze until Saturday however.

No injuries have been reported. Some streets and intersections have been closed off though. Florida Forestry Service will be holding a press conference on Monday.

Manatee Appreciation Day

Believe it or not, today is manatee appreciation day. Manatees have a life span of about 60 years and they have no natural enemies.

Manatees can be found in estuaries, slow flowing rivers, saltwater bays and in canals.  They can be found in the Florida waters during the winter season and migrate as far north as Virginia and as far west as Texas during the summer months.

The manatee diet consist only of vegetables. The biggest challenge manatees face now is loss of habitat due to human activity.

Currently, there are about 3,200 manatees living in the U.S..

USF Football Player Shot

A University of South Florida football player was shot three times over the weekend after a road rage incident. The defensive back, Hasan Childs, is currently recovering in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Now, Childs is being charged in connection to the incident by Tampa Police. Jovanni Jimez says he shot Childs out of self defense.

Childs was hit in the arm and chest.

Over the weekend, USF head football coach, Charlie Strong, saying he was deeply concerned about the incident.
