Universal Orlando’s new waterpark, Volcano Bay will celebrate its grand opening on May 25th, later this year. The park will feature brand new state of the art attractions guaranteed to make a splash. The park is also a replacement for Wet ‘n Wild, which closed on the last day of 2016.
Wet n’ Wild opened in 1977 and considered to be America’s first waterpark. A number of attractions are being relocated to Volcano Bay. Wet n’ Wild introduced the world to the concept of drop box slides with Bomb Bay. The concept involves the slider standing in an enclosed box and then the floor drops out from under them, sending them plummeting down the slide. The concept has become a staple at waterparks around the world.
Wet n’ Wild was located off Universal property while Volcano Bay is on property, so that may have impacted the replacement decision.
